Can we get to not building a new stadium chat please 😉😳😃

I did think about the conversations that have taken place in this thread on my way down Trinity Road to Villa Park on Sunday.  It is a special place for me and I would be loathe for Villa to leave there, but would grudgingly accept it meant we could take that next step as a club.

I did think though about what potential options there could be to stay at Villa Park.  A few people have mentioned about purchasing the land and the houses between Witton Lane and the train line, but I don't know how realistic that prospect is.  Let's say it is though, that would give the potential build over the Witton Lane and increase the size of that stand.  It could also mean there could be potential to build something for the women's team there and make it into a sports village type of thing.  The academy being built there could point to that sort of idea.

It's just whether anything built around there is going to generate year round revenue.

Problem is as per Spurs and Liverpool it literally takes 20 years to buy all the houses. Logical place though  to put a 25k stand there which would bring us up to near 60k. Also you don#t have to move and attendences whilst building wouldn#t be overly impacted.

I think we are used to travelling because of two things - proximity and Empire. Our national story is about our relationship with Europe and our colonies. It acts as a pull. As an island, maritime nation we are programmed to look outwards, even if we have that misplaced exceptionalism. It also helps that we can get to Rome, Paris, Madrid etc in 2 hours. Its a complete ball-ache if you live in Texas.

Well yes, that would open up a lot of opportunities I guess.  It's just what else could go there I suppose.  A smaller women's ground that then, along with the academy building could create a "Villa sports village" (Edinburgh's rugby ground could be a good model for that https://www.scottishconstructionnow.com/articles/in-pictures-new-edinburgh-rugby-stadium-completed)?  A partnership with the University to create student accommodation / retail mix? A retail park like the Fort?

I would actually quite like the idea of it becoming a "Villa sports village" with a women's stadium there as well, but wouldn't have the first idea of whether it would bring in the kind of financial revenue required.  Like you say, there is also the practicality of purchasing the housing.

A mini Wes interview. Don’t get to hear from him much. In truth doesn’t really say anything specific as it was the back end of a business interview on TV

Short and sweet, but shows he get's it.
He knows exactly where we are, what we've done to get here, and how big it would be to achieve CL football.

Retail is dead so it seems as good a site as any, all the buses terminate nearby and the station is over the road.

Weirdly because it came up on this thread the other day on a side-track (boom boom), but the interview was for the ground breaking of his planned 200mph train between Vegas and South California.

I love the fact he says 'up the Villa' at the start.  I always remember as a kid my Grandad would say it every week when we visited and it's great the phrase is still so ingrained with fans after all these years.  I know a few other clubs use it, but it seems to me it's a mainly Villa thing and I love that.

Interesting (or not) that he didn't mention our Conference semi-final as part of the current success.
