There isn't enough land round the NEC, there's no infrastructure except Resorts World, which I doubt can cater for 50,000 people in three hours  and take a look at the access roads onto the M42 whenever there's a show there.

They’re building a new junction close to the nec though what’s that for?

JLR.

Is it. I thought it was for the HS2 Station which seems to be in the middle of it.
New Road into the airport. New Services on the M42 near the airport/Hs2 also

The Mail has an article today about the the new directors on the board and their backgrounds. There is an interesting section that I thought relevant, where they said that even though the Bucks have invested into their existing arena, they're actually planning on a move. I can see us doing similar.

I saw that earlier, but it just seemed to be a rehash of everything that was said publicly when the deal was announced.

55,000 at Wrexham is absolutely delusional. Unless they are going to be giving tickets away for free then it's pure willy waving from their owners.

Definitely part of HS2 and nothing to do with JLR.

It's been an interesting journey watching them not understand half the rules at first to becoming rabid "hide behind the coucher's" like the rest of us.

Don't get me wrong, they are still the ManC of non league/lower leagues, but to watch a couple of Americans fall in love with the game has been quite interesting.

I quite like Ryan Reynolds too. He is very funny. I imagine his humour is not to everyones taste though.

I have no idea who the other guy is, other than he's in some American made Sunshine program, or something.

He seems pleasant enough though.

I certainly don't hate Wrexham as much as some people do though.

I've got a soft spot for Wrexham as have family members and friends who follow them.  I thought that once they were back in league football, they might tone things down a bit and 'let the football do the talking'.  The fact that it is still continuing has got me questioning whether the documentary and TV stuff is actually the priority there.

They should join forces with Small Heath and build a groundshare in Telford.

The TV show was/is a smart move to make the club work. There is only so much they can get from Wrexham fans and the far more numerous Wrexham-based fans of Liverpool et al. So use the fame and contacts of the two owners to create Premier League tourist interest in a small town club at the arse end of the game.

I think 55K is what they could get to on that site (although prob have to evict some students). I don't think they're suggesting building it in the foreseeable.

So far it's felt to me like a nice story, grounded in reality and benefiting a deserving place.

Pre-lockdown I was doing some work over the Hampton side of the M42 and we were told it was part of some upgrading of JLR access.

It's not come cheaply at that level though.  When you had League One players dropping down to play in the National League, you know they weren't going there for peanuts.

It will be interesting to see how they get on from here.  I remember that lot at Salford saying they thought it would be possible to get from National League to Championship in a relatively short time, but they seem to have hit a wall (Wrexham are a much bigger club than Salford though).

With all the publicity about Wrexham, people have overlooked Stockport's achievements over the past couple of seasons.  Came from lower down the pyramid, promoted out of the National League before them and pipped them to the title this year.

I am 100% convinced that that is the case, even though they appear to have actually fallen in love with the game & the club.

At first, I thought it was pretty obvious they were doing it for the documentary alone.

But I thunk they have been bitten by the bug now...

I think if they get into the Premier League, they could get 55k. Maybe not every match, unless they become successful in the Prem, but I think some games they could fill 55k.

Not sure there are many clubs around them & the "celebrity" of it all will attract more of the type of fans that Heck wants to push us out for.

So far, they have done a great job using Reynolds & Disneys reputations to bring some pretty big sponsorship deals, like United Airlines. And that was in the National League.

In the Prem, I could see Disney splashed all over their shirts to push it all a bit further...

Newcastle haven't announced it, The Telegraph are reporting that it's the preferred option.

Meanwhile, we can't even keep up with Wrexham...

Quote
Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney say their long-term ambition is to increase the club’s stadium capacity to as much as 55,000.

A new 5,500 all-seater stand is already planned at the Racecourse Ground as a replacement for the Kop end, which has been unused since 2007.

But after delays to the start of work, a temporary 2,289 stand has been erected instead.

Wrexham’s Hollywood co-owners are currently publicising season three of the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary - charting the club’s promotion from League Two - and have outlined their future plans for Stok Racecourse.

“We have a plan in place right now that would eventually work from stand to stand, so eventually you get all four sides,” McElhenney told American entertainment website Collider.

“It's hard to say for sure, but we think we could get between 45-55,000 people in there”.

With tickets for matches in high demand, Reynolds said he wants to be in a situation where “the whole town could come to the game”.
Yeah, that's about as likely as a 60,000 capacity San Shite-o appearing in Bordesley.  There's no way they're getting a stadium that size there.  The site's smaller than ours, and 2 stands - tech end (university buildings) and mold road stand (Mold Road, The Turf pub) are penned in and can't get a great deal bigger than they currently are.

Half the town supports Everton. They'd never get close to 50k

I think people underestimate how wealthy Ryan Reynolds is, and therefore think he must have an ulterior motive in doing this beyond simply "enjoying it" and wanting to do right by the club and the town.  He's not wealthy from his acting, but from investing in a mobile company, and an gin brand, he's worth something north of $300m.  The point I'm getting at is this; they didn't do this to get more eyes on a Disney documentary, and I genuinely believe they're in it for the right reasons, rather than what they can gain financially (or otherwise).

I also happen to think Wrexham are fairly deserving of the boost they've had.  They are a one-club town, and big enough to be a Championship club, plus they got shafted by a couple of dodgy owners and almost went bust.  I have a soft spot for any club that fights back from adversity like that, the same way I have a soft spot for teams like Luton and AFC Wimbledon.

There will come a time when Wrexham plateau, and then we'll see how the celebrity owner thing does with the fans, but I also think there is a very real possibility they could follow Luton and drag themselves up from non-league into the top flight in about decade.
