I used to have a girlfriend from Preston - great days!

The nights out would involve a visit to the "Blue Moon" and then onto a club called "The Place". They're probably not there anymore. I loved the area and the people - always got a soft spot for PNE.

Not Saturday though obviously.

Sadly no. There is none at the rail station and i think they removed them at the bus station. There are none in the shopping centres either.

There is a premier inn - you could conatct them and ask if you can drop a bag there but I doubt they would without a reservation

It's a nice ground....I went with Walsall a few years back as they played on a Sunday for some reason so should make a racket with 5k as it's a steep stand from memory.

There's a few pubs up past the Wetherspoons, student area with the UCL so will meet a mate in Wigan and then get the train up for Midday and probably go there and then walk to the ground at 2.

Evening Villains,

Well it's been a while since we met in the league, or at all tbh so I'm extending my blue and white hand to any Villa fans in need of a good pint of ale and/or food before Saturday's game.

The Moorbrook on North Road (PR1 1NR) is by far Preston's finest pub and 10-15mins walk from the railway station and the same again to Deepdale (a good halfway point). A taxi from the station will cost you £5 and for those in a car/coach/minibus there is a huge car park to the rear courtesy of a recently closed B&Q at £1 for 12hrs.

With 7 cask pumps and 5 keg taps there is a wide and varied selection of real and craft ales from all over the UK and beyond including a house pale brewed by Blackjack Brewery. For non ale drinkers there is a specially brewed Belgium house pilsner, bottled German pilsners and wheat beers, Thatcher's Cider, Stella 4 and a range of wine and spirits. Think of it as Preston's version of The Craven Arms near New Street.

The current lineup includes ale from Hardknott, Blackjack, Wiper & True, Tiny Rebel, First Chop, Burton Bridge and Windswept breweries.

Food wise the landlord has recently installed a wood fired oven and from there serves homemade pizzas cooked to order before your very eyes. Pizzas are £5 or £7 with a pint of cask/pilsner. There are also crisps, nuts, scratchings and other snacks available from the bar.

Ha ha! Now THAT would be dangerous if I was the landlord. 'Sir, you don't seemed to have made any money this month and you always seem a tad inebriated'!

I love the place (as you can guess) and it's a great atmosphere before and after the game when fans are mixing and disucssing footy, history, ale etc.

I'm a Longtonian originally but now live in Deepdale. In the 15 'drinking' years I lived in Longton I never really called any of the village's 5 pubs my 'local' but within a week of The Moorbrook reopening (it's been there for years but fell apart under the prev landlord and was rescued from becoming flats by The Conti/Ferret family) I felt right at home there.

My dad meets his fellow retired colleagues in the Black Bull every week. After visiting the Moorbrook he started pestering the Black Bull landlord about serving more than one ale (he's yet to be successful)

Oh and if anybody hears of a spare for the game let me know as I'm minded to get the boat over for the day.

PNE Fan, as you might imagine me being a Villa fan, I'm originally from the Midlands (Solihull), I've lived in Longton for three years, but have been up north for twenty years, living around north Bolton.  Anyhow, the pubs in Longton are utter gash, there is not one single redeeming feature.  Nothing fills me with dread more than a night out in Longton, not that is not perfectly pleasant, but they pubs are so soulless.  The Moorbrook sounds great, read some online reviews too, I will make a point of checking it out, whether I can drag my brummie mates there or not tomorrow is another story (-:   Thanks again.
