Shohei Ohtani becomes then first player ever to get 50-50.  50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season.  Oh, and that was in a game last night where he hit two doubles, a single, three home runs and stole two bases.

AL wild card race has become interesting, to make up for lack of interesting division races. Royals/Twins/Tigers, Mariners at a push, after last two spots.

In the NL, Braves v Mets series this week, the Mets are in the box seat so Braves will need to win at least a couple.

I often think it's advantageous to be no 2 seed instead of no 1 as the WC teams are better than the third division winner. Not sure that's the case in the AL this year with Astros at no 3.

Red Sox officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Considering they've somehow managed to be both bang average and inconsistent during the season, it's amazing that they hung in there until the final week.

Still a chance that they could end up 81-81 which would sum things up nicely.

The Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 in their final home game at the Coliseum as supporters said farewell to the Bay Area in San Francisco.

Nearly 47,000 fans turned out for the game before a planned franchise move to Las Vegas by club owner John Fisher.

Major League Baseball's nine-time World Series champions have spent the past 56 seasons at the Oakland Coliseum.

Despite supporter acceptance that the stadium requires major refurbishment, the decision to move the club out of California and 550 miles to neighbouring Nevada has been widely criticised.

Fisher, in a letter to supporters on Monday, said all options had been exhausted after attempts were made to seek land in the area to build a new stadium.

The Oakland stadium wasn’t as bad as has been made out. They rarely are, it’s just that owners want something new, shiny and, preferably, free.

However, the area can be a bit ropey. I was staying in a Days Inn right by the ballpark, felt peckish around midnight and wandered down the street to a gas station for some food.
Hotel staff overheard me talking the next day and gave me a right telling off for walking around the area late at night, on the basis that someone was murdered by the gas station a short time before.

A's owner an absolute twat by all accounts. They haven't got anywhere to play in Vegas yet and will be playing in a minor league ballpark in Sacramento for the foreseeable future.
