Yep. Summed it up.

On the first paragraph, walking  back to the car after the game my lad (19) was saying he’d far rather win on Saturday than win in the Haribo cup … not my mentality at all. Win a piece of silverware that guarantees you Europe by February, a league defeat you can put right next game, a cup defeat means, we have to wait until next year … 1996 is a long way off now.

Realistically we aren't going to win the league - or the Champions League if we managed to qualify.

Football is about winning things - and the three cup competitions give a club of our size and set-up a decent enough chance to do that. Our squad (or team selections) should be set up to do that. I don't think the starting 11 was terrible last night, based on the player we have. But our backup keeper can't play in the style the team is set up to play and the lack of full-backs  - again who are vital to our system, will trip us up this season when we rotate.

Everton didn’t have to play particularly well at all. I think they are a very ordinary team but they made up for it by winning 50/50 tackles of which we didn’t seem interested in winning. Football is about winning silverware not finishing 6th or 7th in the league, or is it?

That said, winning a cup would be nice.

It is and I hate it. Give me a cup win over the European money league any day of the week.
