Cash was very good further forward against Leipzig - it just didn't work against Notts 'don't call us Notts' Forest. He's been one of our better players recently.

Kicking off this thread after a game where he played, poorly granted, out of position is a bit ridiculous. He had one of his best games for the club only a few days previous, doing a job for the team out of position. Playing right wing or right wing back will never work with him in the medium or long term. So at least assess him as a right back in a 4 and his performances v Bournemouth, Chelsea or Brentford for example.

Cash has improved out of all recognition defensively this season. You rarely see those crazy slide tackles anymore, he used to sell himself regularly. There was a couple of penos earlier in the season, both were harsh though lightning really shouldn't strike twice either. But defensively he is quite solid these days. He engages wingers out by the sideline, not by retreating or by tucking in far too much like Konsa does. His big fault in his inability to turn often good positions in the attacking third into goal scoring opportunities. He gets into those positions, which is more than can be said of our other options, but hits the first man a lot. I'm sure it's the reason for his career change from average wide man to PL full back to start with.

From memory his partnership with McGinn on that flank was always quite solid and with Jaden and Bailey struggling we don't really have any other option in either position.

He put in a cross against Leipzig, something I think he's failed to do all season - Bailey back to Cash, back to Bailey back to Cash, Cash back to Konsa..

I think this is probably where I’m at with this guy.

There is a good reason why we don't have these debates about Digne, but we do about Cash.

The only problem with Cash is that he isn’t able for two games in a week., lack of fitness due to recent injuries? Possibly. He’s not alone in that either. If you add to that our defence who cant muster a decent headed clearance between them, then, the result is for certain against us.

Headed clearances aren't a problem when Mings is playing.

Fotmob team of the week...

Right-Back: Matty Cash
Cash helped Aston Villa return to winning ways against Leicester City. The right-back earned a FotMob rating of 8.1 for his showing at Villa Park against the Foxes. He completed 89% of his passes, carved out two chances and attempted four dribbles in what was a impressive display. The 27-year-old won six of his seven tackles, made three ball recoveries and won 11 of his 16 duels.
