Not a shock to see Mings rested. Surprised however that Ollie isn’t starting.

Bang goes the clean sheet!

No surprise with the rotation  to be fair. Rather have Mings for Sat.

Not convinced with Olsen but apart from that it's got to be the strongest bench I have ever seen us have. Unbelievable.

Yeah, we'll have greater need of Tyrone's strength against Dark Arts FC.

Suspect Saturday will look different again.

Stick another central midfielder on top and that bench would probably do fine against most of the league.

Don't do that to me! Combined with Nev's clean sheet comment, I had to double check he wasn't starting.

I think we all know by now that it’s our worst defence for conceding goals but I’m still hopeful we can win. Mings probably needs a break and Pau should add something going forward.

Prefer Ransey on left if Torres is playing.

A very sensible selection for me. We very much need to rotate the players over the next 3-4 weeks. Roger’s is my only concern with the amount of games he’s been involved in but I guess its difficult to drop him given his recent form.

Just noticed that Baleba is only on the bench for them - isn't he supposed to be their Kamara and they're much worse without him?

This is a must win everyone must be aware of that.
also the team selected I think will cause a lot of problems to Brighton defence
Enjoy the game everyone !
I confident will win having seen team sheets of us and them.

Not a shock to see Mings rested. Surprised however that Ollie isn’t starting.
I'd felt he's needed a bit of a break for a while now.  He's a great player, I love him to bits, but he's been carrying the team as far as the attack goes for pretty much a season and a half with very few breaks.  Duran played the last 30minutes quite often, but that's not really the same IMO as Ollie was still playing 2 games a week for the best part of 18 months. I don't think it'll do him the slightest bit of harm to have a couple of weeks where he can just recuperate properly and get his energy levels back up.

It's in our own hands. Our destiny to get 4th or 5th. We can do this.

I'm not sure about Rashford as the 9 as he does not hold he ball up well. Maybe SUE sees more opportunities for Emi to go long as they have done in recent games.

Come Villa good professional performance required please.

I would of liked Asensio in the ten and Rogers take the bench and a deserved breather

Did Unai miss the games Malen played as a striker? Is he aware Rashford prefers to play on the left? Now is the moment not to fuck it up.

How can they spend that long looking at it, then show the clearest angle as their final view to effectively confirm no touch on the ball by the Brighton lad, then when it’s clear to see he’s only taken the man, not give it. Jokers.

Bit of a yawnfest to be honest. JJ has been poor, McGinn and Rogers anonymous. Hope this is our 'patient' tactic and we wake up a bit in the second half.

Cast-iron pen though for us denied by the wanker VAR official.
Title: Re: Brighton v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: brontebilly on April 02, 2025, 08:34:56 PM
Both our centre backs are struggling. Midfield getting a bit of a chasing in all honesty but Emery hasn't helped matters with an idiotic decision to play Rogers on the right. Such an obvious swap with McGinn and shouldn't be waiting until half time to do it.

Funny one, they have been the better team no doubt but we had a blatant peno not given after great play from Ramsey, great forward play from Rashford for our other chance. He had the hard work done but no composure in the shot.

Loads of options to change things but McGinn/Rogers swapping should be first.

Seriously how is that not a penalty? Ramsey skips past Hinselwood and is taken out. Can't see any reason why that wasn't referred as we see penalties given for that every single week. More of a penalty than the one Rogers got on Sunday.

With regards the game decent first 15 minutes and we've just reverted to type.

Rashford trying his best but we need him wide left to go at Hinselwood on a yellow.

Also no idea what is the tactical thinking behind playing McGinn as a support striker and Rogers on the right. Rogers touched the ball about three times and not tracking Mitoma to help out Cash.

Defence been very sloppy, feels like it could be a repeat of last season and losing 1-0 late if we don't use the bench early second half.

I don't think so, penalty would've been sufficient.

Rashfords 2 goals against Preston has done nothing to convince me that he is a viable option through the middle against decent teams. Get Watkins on and Rashford wide

Agreed, shooting doesn’t appear to be his greatest asset.

What do I know lol

They usually go by the sleeve line. As that’s where the ball hit then the referee doesn’t have to change his mind. Put it this way, if that had been chalked off for us then I think a lot of people would have been aggrieved. All ifs and buts, goal wasn’t given so, good enough for me!

That was so meek from Pau and the rest of them. Would back Mings to clear that ball.

Yep. One of them needed to take charge of that.

Blaming Pau for that is peak narrative. That was Emi’s fuck up and arguably Konsa’s before.

“And the rest of them”. With that now-trademark dullard look from Pau as a ball comes across the six yard box.

But GOAL. UP THE FUCKING NARRATIVE VILLA

Not a great performance but exactly what you need to do in an end of season run in.

We'd take this 90 minutes in the cup SF. April signings stepped up and lovely to see Malen get off the mark. I'd like to see him get a start v Forest.
